Winner of the Audience Award at Plácido Domingo’s 2013 Operalia World Opera Competition in his hometown, Verona, and runner up in the main category, Italian baritone Simone Piazzola is a leading prospect in the new generation of opera stars. Here he is performing Verdi’s Lo morrò, ma lieto in core in the competition:

Piazzola, who has been compared to the late Pierro Capucilli due to their shared affinity for Verdi’s heavy baritone roles, has performed in many of Europe’s finest concert halls and opera houses including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Megaron in Athens and further afield at the Teatro Municipal in São Paulo. His Rosenblatt Recital with Vincenzo Scalera on Wednesday 4 March, 2015 at Wigmore Hall will be his London recital debut.

Future highlights in 2015 will include the title role in Verdi’s opera Simon Boccenegra at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Beijing, a role he received a 5 star review for his "burly, warrior-like" performance in Venice at the end of 2014, and Silvio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci under the baton of Carlo Rizzi in Milan. Piazzola will conclude his Rosenblatt Recital with Di Provenza il Mar from Verdi’s Il Traviata, which you can see him performing here:
