Rosenblatt Recitals

Dear subscriber,

We have been treated to two brilliant recitals so far this year from Celso Albelo and Angel Blue; we look forward to the promise of a third in November as Rosenblatt Recitals bring Italian tenor Giorgio Berrugi to the Wigmore Hall for his UK recital debut.

» TICKETS £12, £16, £22, £26

Born in Pisa, tenor Giorgio Berrugi has built a reputation across Europe for his refined interpretations of Italian repertoire.

‘He [Berrugi] has a very big and even voice, but it’s what he does with it which is most interesting. He finds details in the music which are so often overlooked…’

Highlights of his operatic career so far include debuting Gennaro in the world premiere of Hans Werner Henze’s final opera Gisela! (aka The Strange and Memorable Ways of Happiness) and touring Japan with La Scala under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, where his interpretation of the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto was warmly received.

However Berrugi’s path into opera was far from normal. Before being hand-picked as a promising tenor for the programme at La Fenice, Berrugi was a highly respected international award-winning clarinettist, holding the position of Solo Clarinetist at the Orchestra Sinfonica in Rome and being a member of the Duo Alban Berg. (For those interested, use the following link to see Berrugi in the Duo Alban Berg, performing Brahms Sonata Op.120, No.2 – Andante con moto).

We have picked two videos of Berrugi in performance for your enjoyment. In the first clip below, Berrugi demonstrates his capability with Italian repertoire (and Verdi in particular) performing ‘Ma se m'è forza perderti’ from Un ballo in maschera.

In this next video, Berrugi sings the haunting yet beautiful ‘Lacrimosa’ from Maurizio Agostini’s little-known Messa di Requiem in memoria di Papa Giovanni Paolo II.

We do hope you can join us.

With best wishes from everyone at Rosenblatt Recitals
