Rosenblatt Recitals

Dear subscriber,

This year is a special year for opera-lovers everywhere as we celebrate the bicentenary of the prolific composer Giuseppe Verdi. Therefore it seems fitting to bring 2013 to a close with a special Rosenblatt Recital dedicated to this icon of opera. This special one-off Rosenblatt Recital at Cadogan Hall will be performed by another great Italian master and legend of the opera stage Leo Nucci – whom Luciano Pavarotti once described as ‘the greatest baritone of our age’.

» Thursday 12 December 2013, 7.30pm
» Cadogan Hall
» TICKETS £12, £18, £24, £30

In a programme including music and arias from La traviata, Nabucco, Don Carlo and more, excerpts from many of Verdi’s most-loved operas will feature over the course of the evening. However, this special recital is more than just a celebration of Verdi’s music – it is also a celebration of one of the greatest Verdian baritones ever to have performed it.

Over a career spanning five decades, Leo Nucci has built a towering reputation for his definitive performances of all of Verdi’s major baritone roles, regularly performing in all-star casts alongside Pavarotti. In the video below, Nucci’s Don Carlo confronts Pavarotti’s Don Alvaro in an excerpt from La Forza del Destino during a Royal Albert Hall Gala Concert in 1995.

In recent years, Nucci has devoted himself almost exclusively to Verdian roles, including the title role in the Royal Opera House’s Nabucco last year. You can listen to Nucci speaking about playing Nabucco, Verdi’s life and the composer’s legacy here.

With the Italian Opera Chamber Quintet providing accompaniment and performing instrumentals from Falstaff and Aida, it promises to be an incredible evening at Cadogan Hall. Tickets are selling fast, so we encourage you to book now! We leave you with a video of Nucci singing ‘Di provenza il mar, il suol’ from La traviata, with which he plans to open the second half of this very special recital.

We do hope you can join us.
